A
site-responsive billboard designed for Plattenbau* settlements.
The billboard is to be re-made upon each presentation, based on an architectural
drawing of the area into which it will be installed. Within the drawing,
several buildings are replaced with IKEA 'Billy' book shelves.
The re-drawn landscape reflects the parallels of design ergonomics from both
socialist architectural practices and late capitalist modes of gentrification
(normalization). The utopic ideologies of both economies
converge towards similar aesthetic forms and norms.
*(German word for modular, concrete slab, housing
typical of socialist architecture, yet also used in the West for public
housing)
