Produced
for Das Auge des Ich public exhibition on the Ottobraunstr. Berlin, near
Alexanderplatz. Curated by Sibylle Hofter
Still images were projected from within an abondoned building onto 8 large
windows facing the street. Artists were asked to create works for the windows
which were projected at night in 8 second intervals.
Sequence A deals with the history of the site, namely as being connected
to the Stasi Police' massive spying operation during the former GDR. One
Character hides on the crowds and stares directly at the camera, completely
aware of being observed. The sequence continues until the main character
looks away in this unstaged situation.
Sequence B deals with the current plight of the building as being slated
for destruction.
1 Series of images depicts a plattenbau-esque building in controlled demolition
- photos taken from online video. The last series tempts the public with
the hidden interiors of the building by fillling the windows with vast
corridor images from the failed Nazi "vacation" complex in Rugen, known
as Prora.
