Proposal for the PR campaign for the popularisation of the Treaty of the Functioning of the Union

Une proposition PR pour la vulgarisation du Traité sur la fonctionnement de l'Union

The drawing is a sketch for a PR campaign for the popularisation of the "Reform Treaty" of the EU or "Treaty of the Functioning of the Union" - currently in debate (as of 09.07).

Drawing Author: Rose Berthier (ID francaise de Patricia Reed)

The leaders of all 36 regions (including territories outside the bounds of geographic Europe - that are nonetheless implicated by treaties and constitutions). All EU leaders would be recorded singing the text from the treaty to the tune of Ode to Joy (Official EU theme song). They are composited in a Brady Bunch configuration, and the typical karaoke text scrolls below.

The large video is to be installed for a simultaneous public karaoke performance in capital cities, where the public sings along as a collective in a space such as a public square.

A Pneumatic Dome of Public Opinion: A Publicity Stunt

The drawing is a sketch for a publicity stunt ringing in the signing of the Lisbon Treaty - currently in debate (as of 09.07).

Drawing Author: Pia Fuchs (deutsche ID von Patricia Reed)

First step is to commission Sir Norman Foster to re-build a version of the Reichstag Dome (although this one would also transports audio - we need to hear the opera!). Secondly Sloterdijk's pneumatic dome is air-dropped to Lisbon and set up deflated underthe transparent dome.

All 36 EU leaders assemble under the deflated pneumatic dome and are to recite the treaty in their native tongue - in an attempt to inflate it.

Outside the dome, where the public hears the Babel readings, there are Suck and Blow stations - meaning they can blow one breath to contribute to the inflating process (a vote of support) or Suck to deflate.

Online the public can participate by clicking to inflate or deflate the dome. All EU IP addresses are to be granted access, which means non-EU citizens can also participate

Performance continues until the dome is inflated or people are too exhuasted to continue.
